Welcome Aboard!

As the Senior Naval Science Instructor, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Riverview High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) Unit. Our unit is one of the finest JROTC units in Hillsborough County.  We have earned the Distinguish Unit Award 10 times the highest award any JROTC unit can achieve.  Your time here will prove to be challenging but you will look back at your time in the NJROTC Unit as a rewarding one.

The NJROTC program mission is to instill in students in the United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.

The NJROTC program was established by Public Law in 1964 and may be found in Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102. The program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation, by instructors who are retired Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. The NJROTC curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation, and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by community service activities, drill competition; field meets, and visits to naval activities, marksmanship training, and other military training. Uniforms, textbooks, training aids, travel allowance, and a substantial portion of instructors' salaries are provided by the Navy.

Outside of the unit itself, the battalion members regularly take part in community volunteer events and make a very positive impact in the community. In addition to other activities the Unit participates in, special events like the Navy/Marine Corps Birthday Ball, end of the year Picnic, award ceremony, and the coveted Battalion Color Company Competition.

Riverview High School is one of Seventy-four Florida High Schools among numerous High Schools in the United States which offers the NJROTC program. NJROTC Unit has a number of former cadets that have enlisted or commissioned in the United States Armed Forces for service in a wide variety of career fields. Riverview High School was designated as a Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps host institution under the provision of the Reserve Officer training Corps Vitalization Act, Public law 88-647 on July 1st,  2003 and received it's commissioning on 28 April 2004.

Congratulations on your decision to help the Riverview High School NJROTC Unit become the best that it can be!
