New Cadet Orientation or (NCO)

The first experience for incoming cadet is New Cadet Orientation or (NCO). This is a four day long program that introduces new cadets to the Navy Juinor Reserve Officer Training Corps. During orientation, new cadets are instructed in NJROTC policies, basic drill, uniform standards, grooming standards, and physical readiness. New cadet are also introduced to the different opportunities NJROTC program has to offer. The bonds formed at new cadet orientation often last through the cadet's four years in the shark battalion and beyond.

FRESHMAN YEAR: Naval Science One/NS1

While new cadets get familiar with classes and high school life, they also become more familiar with the NJROTC program. Naval Science one or NS1 cadets first learn to lead by following. New cadets take classes in basic military knowledge and history. Along with the rest of the Battalion, they develop their knowledge of drill and overall physical readiness through physical training sessions and a weekly afternoon drill period. The best cadets are well-rounded individuals. New cadets are encouraged to get involved with the many opportunities that their RVHS has to offer. A cadet can choose from a variety of organizations, sports, student groups and clubs, as well eight different NJROTC competion teams to choose from. The Navy JROTC shark Battalion is a great resource during this time. Upper class battalion cadets help ensure that the transition to high school life is going smoothly both academically and personally.

SOPHOMORE YEAR: Naval Science Two/NS2

Cadets have now had an entire year to decide whether or not Navy JROTC is right for them. Once a cadet has enrolled in at the beginning of sophomore year, leaving the program will mean returning all uniform items, and text books or repayment of damaged or lost items. It is during this year that cadets will take on increased leadership opportunities and join competition teams.

JUNIOR YEAR: Naval Science Three/NS3

During the junior year, a cadet will be involved in the day-to-day operation of the battalion. At Riverview High School NJROTC shark battalion, it is the cadets who are responsible for planning and carrying out events. It is during this year that cadets will seek leadership position and more responsibilities within the battalion. Additionally some cadets are contemplating a career in the Armed Forces.

SENIOR YEAR: Naval Science Four/NS4

Senior year is an exciting time for NJROTC cadet. Of course, most seniors often hold leadership positions in the unit and determine the success of the NJROTC unit. Furthermore, some NS4 cadet may have obligated to one of the branches of the Armed Forces or have decided to seek a commission throught the ROTC Scholarship program.
